Cotton Belt Trail

The Cotton Belt Trail was envisioned to bring new recreational opportunities to southwest Waco by transforming an abandoned 100 foot wide railroad corridor into a distinctive hike and bike experience. JBI Partners worked with the City of Waco to develop the 2.5 mile concrete trail, using a railroad inspired design that honors the site’s history as a major Cotton Belt Railroad line. The trail connects a future 60 acre neighborhood park to the Waco Regional Landfill and features a signature bridge crossing the South Bosque River, where existing railroad trestles were repurposed as pedestrian bridge supports using innovative removable concrete panels. Custom railings, solar lighting, and shade shelters echo historic train platform details, creating a memorable and immersive trail experience. Today, the Cotton Belt Trail is a regional destination, offering elevated river views and a unique blend of history, engineering, and natural beauty.
